Jesus said, “I will build my church.” The church belongs to Christ, is built upon the truth of who He is, and has been given a purpose that reaches far beyond what happens inside a building on Sunday.
In Matthew 16 and Acts 2, we see the biblical picture of a local New Testament church: born-again, baptized believers gathered under the authority of God’s Word to worship, evangelize, make disciples, minister, and fellowship. Then, when the gathering ends, the church scatters into the community carrying the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
We don’t simply go to church. We are called to be the church.
