Growing up I always believed that if I put my trust in Jesus, and lived a good life I could be saved. As time went on and I got older I began to struggle with my salvation. I would wonder if I was living a good enough life to earn favor with God.
It wasn’t until I was a father, and my son started playing sports at FBT, that I learned that what I believed about salvation was not biblical. My son Seth was playing flag football, and his coach Ray Barnwell was presenting the Gospel after practice and Ray told the kids that it was Christ and Christ alone that saved us. Jesus has done all the work, and there is nothing I can do to earn my way into heaven. Ray’s faithfulness to volunteer to teach these kids sports and share the gospel began the process of both my wife and myself coming to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
“Because of my son Seth’s exposure to the Gospel through FBT Sports, Florence Christian School, FBT, and my wife and I teaching him at home, he also accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.”
After being saved I served for several years as a FBT Sports coach in football and baseball, and I was able to share my faith with kids and their parents too. Also, because of my son Seth’s exposure to the Gospel through FBT Sports, Florence Christian School, FBT, and my wife and I teaching him at home, he also accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
FBT Sports has had a huge impact on my family, and I am grateful for the program and those willing to serve in it.
